David Hair

David Yahola Hair, 79, of Kenwood, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He was born on June 5, 1941 in Kenwood, Oklahoma; the son of Yahola and Pearl (Backwater) Hair. He worked general labor most of his life. David was a fluent Cherokee speaker and only knew how to read and write the Cherokee language. He enjoyed reading from his Cherokee Bible and attending church at Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood. For many years, David rang the church bell to start worship services.  He also rang the church bell when a member of the community had passed away.  He loved to spend time outdoors, every spring and fall, he made it his goal to find the most mushrooms where he competed with his surrounding neighbors to get to the "patch" first.  He also dug wild onions, picked wild strawberries and blackberries to be cooked and enjoyed at the supper table.  He knew and gathered plants and roots to be used for natural medicine. David looked forward to reading his Cherokee Bible and always attending Church Services at Euwasha Baptist Church in Kenwood, where he rang the Church Bells. He leaves behind many memories for his family to remember and will be missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services for David will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 in the Euwasha Cemetery in Kenwood with Reverend Lorne Beck officiating. Casket Bearers will be Danny Hair, Wallis Hair, Trell Marble, Jeremiah Folmer, Jace Marble, Jamison Hair, Tommy Woods. Honorary Casket bearers will be Kent Marble, Casyn Arric, Blaze Marble, Ryder Arric, Jacob Six, and Keith Woods. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2020 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. David is survived by his brothers, Jack Woods of Kenwood, Oklahoma and Jerry Marble and wife Karen of Salina, Oklahoma; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Marble; father, Yahola Hair; step father, John Marble, Jr.; brother, John “Tuffy” Marble, Jr.; sister, Mary Folmar; and niece Kelly Sue Folmar.
