Alvena Barbara Dickinson, a compassionate and caring soul who dedicated her life to helping others, has passed away at the age of 88. Alvena was born on February 24, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, to her loving parents Addie and Ralph Hudson. She grew up surrounded by the warmth of a close-knit family and developed a strong sense of empathy and kindness from a young age.
Throughout her life, Alvena exuded a selfless nature that touched the lives of many. She will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to serving others through her various roles within the community. Alvena's proudest accomplishments include her membership at the First United Methodist Church of Pryor, and her role as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Army Chapter #165 Galena, Kansas in 1971. Her dedication knew no bounds as she continued her involvement with the Pryor chapter #50 after moving to Pryor, Oklahoma in 1988. Alvena thrived on the camaraderie and friendship found within these chapters and actively participated in Locust Grove and Adair Chapters throughout the years.
Apart from her community involvement, Alvena harbored a deep love for creativity and artistic expression. She found solace in crocheting, embroidery, reading, and quilting. With nimble fingers and an eye for detail, Alvena brought numerous beautiful creations into existence. Afghans, doilies, hot pads, hats, scarves – each imbued with love and care. Her work was admired by all who were fortunate enough to receive one of these heartfelt gifts. Furthermore, Alvena was an ardent music lover and possessed green thumbs that flourished in growing plants from seeds.
Alvena is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Addie; brothers, Ralph “Rocky” Jr., Glover, and George David Hudson; son, George Melton Lewis; and daughter, Vena Patricia Moore.
Alvena leaves behind a legacy that will forever be treasured by her surviving family, including her son, Arthur J. Lewis and wife Marivic (Em) P. Lewis of Pryor, OK; daughter, Carol Lee of Tucson, AZ; brother, Marcel "Marc" Hudson and wife Helen of Pryor, OK. Additionally, she will be fondly remembered by her 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom were immensely blessed to have known her. Her special grandson, Charles Moore who is currently stationed in Germany with the United States Air Force and wife Jenney and their son Connor; and granddaughter, Kim Lewis of Florida. She is also survived by her nephews, Mark Hudson and wife Joey of Foyil, OK, and Michael Hudson of Wisconsin; nieces, Linda Stienke of Wisconsin; great nieces, Lindi Hudson of Foyil, OK, and Shayna Jones and husband Danny of White Oak, OK; and great nephew, Dr. Brian K. Hudson and wife Andrea of New Mexico.

Alvena's departure has left an indescribable void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her selflessness, dedication to others, and creative spirit have imprinted lasting memories on all fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. While our hearts are heavy with sorrow at her loss, we rejoice in the knowledge that Alvena has found eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, it was Alvena’s wish that donations be made to the Eastern Star Heart Fund.
