Andrew King

June 3, 1935 — August 26, 2017

Andrew Ray "Andy" King, was born to Andrew King and Ruby Tempton on June 3, 1935 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He departed this life on Saturday, August 26, 2017 to be with his Lord and all his loved ones in heaven. Andy grew up in the Pryor and Tulsa area; he graduated school in Cleora, Oklahoma. He teased he was the 5th smartest in his class, and there were only 5 students. After graduation, Andy served in the Army during the Korean War. He was sent to Japan where he was in the paratroopers and made 19 jumps. When he left the Army, he moved to Tulsa where he went to work for National Tank Company, he worked there for 35 years. In 1979, Andy married Margaret Ledbetter Hood. They had a wonderful life together with son, Chris, until her death in 1994. He married Glendola Peters in 1995, they have had a wonderful 22 years together. Andy loved to travel, he and Glendola along with Ron and Barbara Sedgwick and Doris and Doc Goforth traveled to almost every state and saw many sights. They attended many Elks Conventions together. Andy was one of the sweetest, kindest, and most caring men you could ever meet. He was well-respected and loved by all who knew him. He loved his family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with them. After retirement, he worked as the Manager of Elks Lodge in Pryor and for Orscheln Farm and Home. His final job was at Thunderbird Youth Academy, he loved working there, first as a sergeant, and later in the office. He loved working with the students and had a huge sense of pride when they graduated. He was always excited when the new recruits arrived. Andy continued to work there until he became ill. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017 in the First Church of God in Pryor with Reverend Andrew Rehbein and Phil Green officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery with Garry King, Greg King, Tim King, Terry Elliott, Kenny Lanning, and Jeff Helbreth serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Jack Gilley, Frankie Littlefield, Roy Hill, Ron Sedgwick, Terry Brown, Brooks Ledbetter, and Curt True. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Andy leaves behind a loving family and wife Glendola, of the home; son, Chris King and wife Kristen; grandchildren, Maggie, Eli, and Drew of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sons, J.R. and Barbara Morrison, and Jessie Morrison of Pryor; daughters, Bobbie Faulk of Pryor, Oklahoma, Sherrie and Sam Vanover of Adair, Joanie and Willie Gaskins of Salina; daughter in law, Anna Morrison of Chouteau, Oklahoma; brother, Garry and Mary King of Pryor; sisters, Rena and Jack Gilley of Plano, Texas, Marilyn and Frankie Littlefield of Adair, and Carolyn and Roy Hill of Coweta; sister in law, Mary Higgs and family, and Connie King and family, brother in law, Brooks and Norma Ledbetter; 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, co - workers, and friends; three special friends, Ron Sedgwick, Terry Brown, and Terry Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Nadaine King, brother, Donnie King, wife Margaret King, son in law, Kenny Faulk, daughter in law, Lois Morrison, brother in laws, Robert Peters and Doc Goforth; sons, Rhew and Dale Morrison, and one great granddaughter, Kaylee Morrison.
