Ann

May 17, 1931 — December 29, 2013

Ann Marie was born May 17, 1931 to Jewel (Papp) and William Dush in Cleveland, Ohio. She and her older sister, Lila, were active in girl scouting, and were attending a summer camp as teenagers when a tornado tore through the wooded campsite while she and her sister were hiking. Ann Marie grabbed her sister with one hand a tree trunk and with the other and the two held on for dear life. When the storm passed they were unharmed and located by their father and the park ranger and happily reunited with their mother, who was the scout leader. Ann Marie attended Collinwood High School in Collinwood, Ohio where the sisters played violin in the orchestra. There, she met Oliver Colclazier, who played clarinet, and later became her husband. Mom graduated high school and received a special national award for her bath mat set hand woven on a loom. She held several jobs processing payroll, and appeared as an extra in the film. "The Kid from Cleveland." She married Oliver Colclazier Aug. 29, 1952 after he had graduated from St. Louis University. She was experiencing severe health problems early in their marriage, and also discovered she was expecting a child. She postponed needed life-saving surgery until the birth of their daughter, Cynthia, Feb. 10. 1954. "If I am going to do anything worthwhile in life," she said, "I am going to give this child a chance to live." Her prospects of living were pretty bleak, but she put her faith in God, and outlived all those who told her she would die. Ann Marie took her knowledge of her condition and established groups to educate those who also suffered from the same. She wrote a handbook for nurses and doctors, which was used as an educational tool for years. She received the prestigious Sam Dubin award for her efforts and was recognized nationally. Ann Marie was always willing to help those who needed her expertise. When a dying black man needed help an armed National Guardsman escorted her through a race riot so she could tend to his wounds and relieve his suffering. She never changed for her services, as she was doing God's work. Ann Marie was also a homemaker, renown for her baking abilities. She frequently baked for church events. Ann also crocheted and made a beautiful appliqued quilt.Ann Marie was known for her cheerful disposition, hospitality, and generosity. She suffered many health problems, but her faith in God saw her through every difficulty. She leaves behind a legacy of love which includes her daughter, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
