Anna Lay

October 20, 1919 — September 8, 2017

Anna Marie Lay, 97, of Strang, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 in Pryor. She was born on October 20, 1919 in Strang, Oklahoma; the daughter of William and Nancy (Perkins) Gilpin. Anna has lived in the Strang area most of her life and was a charter member of the Strang First Baptist Church. She was active in the Women's Auxiliary in Strang and in her church, singing in the Choir and teaching Bible School. Anna was also very active in the youth group throughout the years. She also enjoyed crocheting and would make quilts and afghans for her friends and family. When she was able, she worked in her flower garden and went fishing. Anna would look forward to watching her favorite soap operas; and everyone knew they would have to wait until they were over to be able to leave the house. She loved her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind many wonderful memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in the Strang First Baptist Church with Reverend Slade Story officiating. Burial will follow in the Spavinaw - Strang Cemetery with Joe Paysinger, Charles Evan, Dale Ritter, Darren Reed, Clyde Still, and Frank McGlasson serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor. Anna is survived by her daughter in law, Mary Lay of Langley, Oklahoma; 2 grandchildren, Ella McGlasson and husband Frank of Strang, Oklahoma and Regina Still and husband Clyde of Big Cabin, Oklahoma; 4 great grandchildren, Kaleb Still, Megan Still, Molly Kerr and Heath Kerr; 2 great great grandchildren, Karter Still and Leon Still; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Gilpin; her husband, Fred Lay; son, Dick Lay; infant daughter, and 2 brothers, Dub Gilpin and Laudy Gilpin.
