Annie Downing

Annie (Grass) Downing, 99, of Spavinaw, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at her home. She was born on June 12, 1912 in Salina, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas Grass and Mary (Smoke) Grass. She married Samuel Downing on August 18, 1930 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She spent her life as a homemaker, raising her 10 children. Annie was a talented seamstress making many of the family's clothes. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden or going fishing. She also enjoyed taking long rides sightseeing with her children and going out to eat. Annie loved her Lord and her family and will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held in the Ribbon Baptist Church on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Bridge Chuckluck and Reverend Kevin Webster officiating. Interment will be in the Ribbon Cemetery. A Wake service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by her son, John Downing and wife, Melindy; her daughters, Arlie Hoose, Polly White, Tiney Hodges, Betty Mouse, Jessie Paul and Jennie Chiesoe; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Grass; her sons, Cornelius Downing and Delburt Downing; her brothers, Charlie, Dick, Joe and Richard Grass; her sisters, Julie Blackfox and Jennie Dry.
