Anthony Backwater

Anthony Backwater, 50, of Salina, departed from this life on Friday, December 3, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on January 24, 1971 in Claremore, Oklahoma; the son of Willis Dale Backwater and Linda Kay (Billy) Backwater. Anthony enjoyed vintage marvel toys, collecting old comics, and fishing whenever he got the chance. He was an avid OU Sooners football fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife and children, and especially his grandchildren. He will be so dearly missed by those who loved and knew him.

Funeral services for Anthony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Blue Springs Church with Pastor Lorne Beck officiating. Burial will follow at New Jordan Cemetery with Jason Bendabout, Arnold Bendabout, Dewayne Bendabout, Jr., Curtis Dry, Jim Kingfisher, and Tom Mike serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Wiley Backwater, Jr. and Guy Graves. Wake services will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Shipman’s Funeral Home. Anthony is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of the home; sons, Caleb Backwater of Casa Grande, Arizona, Emilio Gonzales of Pryor; Larry Martinez of Pryor; and Ysidrio Cardenas of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Alyssa Cardenas of Pryor; sister, Katherine Backwater-Teel and husband Norman of Kansas; aunts, Geneva Doerflinger, Mary and husband Rick Sutter, Ramona McLain, Marilyn Williams, Kendra Jenkins; uncle, Billy Backwater and wife Karen; nieces, McKenzie Teel and Gwendolyn Teel both of Kansas; great aunts, Maxine Gaddis and Ella Mae Chumwalooky; 9 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Billy.
