Barbara Jo Sedgwick, a beloved member of the Pryor, Oklahoma community, passed away on July 30, 2023, at the age of 79. She was born on August 1, 1943, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to her loving parents Roy and Maudie (Gwartney) Peters.
Barbara led a fulfilling life that showcased her determination and dedication to both her career and family. She excelled in her professional endeavors, working as a bank manager for Arvest and as a healthcare administrator. Her commitment to her work was evident in every task she took on, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Barbara's leadership skills were exceptional, and she left an indelible mark on all those she worked with.
But Barbara's accomplishments extended far beyond her career. She cherished education and constantly sought ways to enrich her knowledge. She received her associate degree, setting an example for others to follow their academic aspirations.
Throughout her life, Barbara found great joy in pursuing hobbies and interests that brought her happiness. She had a passion for playing Texas Hold Em and enjoyed the thrill of strategic thinking during each game. Traveling with her beloved husband brought endless adventures and treasured memories that enriched their lives together. Nothing compared to spending quality time with her family—a value she held dear to her heart. Whether it was gardening, reading a captivating book, or perfecting her golf swing, Barbara found solace in these moments of leisure.
Barbara's proudest accomplishments were not just confined to professional success but also included being an active member of various organizations within her community. She was an esteemed member of the Business Professional Women Beta Sigma Phi and Elks Lodge—an opportunity for her to connect with others who shared similar passions while making a positive difference in the world.
Barbara is survived by her loving family who will forever hold cherished memories close to their hearts. Her sons, Ronald Sedgwick and wife LeeAnna of Owasso, OK, and Randall Sedgwick of Helena, OK. Her daughter, Darla Sedgwick of Pryor, OK. Barbara was also a caring sister to Jim Peters of Catoosa, OK, Jerry Peters of Owasso, OK, Glendola King of Pryor, OK and Doris Goforth, also of Pryor. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Sedgwick and brother Robert Peters.
Barbara's legacy lives on through her beautiful grandchildren: Maranda Sedgwick, Hannah Sedgwick, Keith Sedgwick, Samantha Hatch, Cayden Harman, Dezirea Reyes, and Athena Bradford. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart as she watched them grow and create their own unique paths in life.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Creekside Church in Pryor with Reverend Andrew Rehbein and Reverend Neil Oldham officiating. Interment will follow in the Graham Memorial Cemetery with Jim Peters, Jerry Peters, and Greg Peters serving as casket bearers. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Shipman's Funeral Home.
