Broken Arrow

Barry Ray Rutherford, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, passed away on July 9, 2023, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Born on November 2, 1944, in Vinita, Oklahoma, Barry brought joy and laughter into the lives of those around him throughout his remarkable journey.

Barry's early years were filled with vibrant memories of his upbringing alongside his parents, Theron and Gladys Rutherford (Patterson), and his beloved twin sister, Barbara. Growing up in Chouteau, Oklahoma, Barry's mischievous spirit and playful nature quickly became apparent to all who knew him. His onery personality and penchant for teasing endeared him to everyone he encountered.

After graduating from Chouteau High School in 1963, Barry embarked on a fulfilling career as a structure mechanic at Spirit Aero Systems. With unwavering dedication and a passion for his craft, he contributed to the aerospace industry for decades. Barry's meticulous work ethic was admired by colleagues and served as an inspiration.

Barry's talents extended far beyond his professional pursuits. He found solace in the simple pleasures of life—whether it was cheering passionately for the University of Oklahoma during sporting events or relishing moments spent engrossed in television shows. His enthusiasm was contagious and brought joy to those fortunate enough to witness it.

In service to his country, Barry selflessly enlisted in the United States Army. He faithfully served for two years, including a deeply impactful eighteen-month deployment to Vietnam. His bravery and commitment to protecting others embody the finest qualities of an American serviceman.

Among Barry's proudest accomplishments was winning the state championship in basketball with his high school team back in 1963—a testament to his indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to excellence. In addition to this achievement on the court, he found immense happiness when he married October Ogle in Tulsa in 1981. Their union was a testament to lasting love and companionship.

Barry's memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family, who find solace in the beautiful moments they shared with him. He leaves behind his loving wife, October Rutherford of the home; sons, Brad Williams, and his wife Tiffany of Woodhaven, MI, and Dustin Williams of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Sonja Rutherford and her wife Gina of Owasso, OK; his dear brothers, David Rutherford of Chouteau, OK, and Denis Rutherford, accompanied by his wife Carolyn, of Skiatook, OK. Barry's legacy also lives on through his adored grandchildren: Kyzor, Kanden, and Jaxon Williams.

In celebrating Barry's life, we embrace the cherished memories he imparted upon us all. His laughter will forever resonate in our hearts, and his spirit will continue to guide us through both joyous and challenging times. Though he may no longer be with us in person, the impact he made during his time on this earth remains indelible—an enduring testament to a life well-lived.
