Benny Russell

Benny "Andy" Russell, 73, of Pryor, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He was born on June 2, 1942 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Andy was inducted into the United States Army in Vinita, Oklahoma in 1960; after being honorably discharged he returned home to work as a self employed mechanic. Being a car lover, he enjoyed collecting model cars and spending time working on all makes and models. He also looked forward to spending time outdoors, especially when he was fishing or going to the creek. Andy enjoyed traveling, the last trip he was able to go on, he and his wife, along with his sister in law, Lynda, traveled through 13 states on a month long adventure. Andy was a huge sports fan; he loved to watch OU football and Oklahoma City Thunder Basketball. He had wonderful memory and could recall directions and places, as well as books he had read. Above all, Andy loved his family and enjoyed each moment he had to spend with them. He leaves behind many memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Graham Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Andy is survived by his wife, Rose Russell of the home; daughter, Andrea Powell and husband Frank of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Caitlin Powell and Dalton Powell; great grandchildren, Emily Ray, Ella Ray and Evelyn Ray; brothers, Joe Russell of Bixby, Oklahoma and William Russell of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; brother in law, Leon Russell of Twin Oaks, Oklahoma; sister in laws, Doris Wilson of Salem, Oregon, Lynda Cooper and husband Tandy of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nancy Russell; sister, Patty Ackerman and brother in law, Jackie Russell.
