Betty Brown-Enna

Betty Brown-Enna, 99, of Salina, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Tulsa Hillcrest Medical Center. She was born on December 31, 1916 in Pittsburg, Kansas and in 1920 she and her family moved to Spavinaw, Oklahoma. Her home was situated on Spavinaw Creek at the mouth of the Grand River where he early years were spend fishing on the creek, playing with her eight sisters and brothers, roaming the grassy wooded areas around her home and attending school where she was a gifted straight A student. As a teenager, she loved music and was exceptionally talented. She taught herself to play many instruments. Later she would have one of the first all girl bands and recorded over 200 songs. She also learned to speak six languages including Cherokee. Betty was a bright spirit who loved nature and loved to laugh. She could light up a room. As Betty got older she moved to St. Louis and helped her sisters run The St. Louis School of Practical Nursing and in the 1950's she also managed The Kansas City School of Practical Nursing. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Pryor. She is survived by her children, Robert Enna of Tiff City, Irene Jones of Monticello, KY, Betty Slovinski and Robert Burns of Michigan; her sister, Peggy Brown-Tolman of Haskell, OK; many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Enna; her mother, Henrietta Cochran-Brown; her father, John Harvey Brown; six sisters, Helen Brown, Ann Patton Brown, Bell Brown-Rothfield, Lila Brown-Burns, Edith Brown-Coffee; two brothers, Obra Harvey Brown and Bernard Harvey Brown
