Betty Howell

Betty Lou Howell, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on August 12, 1932 in Mazie, Oklahoma, the daughter of Samuel Troy Bowen and Mabel Glee (Williams) Bowen. Betty married Ray Howell on May 7, 1948 and had celebrated 50 years of marriage. Betty worked for St. John's Hospital in Tulsa as an OBGYN Tech for several years. She also worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in October of 1992. Betty was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Locust Grove Go Getters. She and Ray enjoyed attending Air Force reunion's all over the United States. She in later years took care of Ray as he had Alzheimer's, also caring for her mother Mabel and sister Nina. Betty was a lovely lady of faith who dearly loved her family. She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services for Betty will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pleasant View Baptist Church with Reverend Jerold Pilant officiating. Interment will be in the Hogan Cemetery next to her husband. Casket bearers will be Kenny Kowis, Eddy Bradley, Greg Kowis, Mike Bowen, Bobby Little and Jeff Woodard. Her family will receive friends and family at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday evening. The family asks memorials be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Pleasant View Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Phil and wife, Jamie Howell; her daughters, Margie and husband, Larry Fike, Cathy and husband, Roy Martin, Debbie and husband, Ed Bradley , Sandie and husband, Mike Davenport; her brothers, John and wife, Faye Bowen, Clifford and wife, Gayle Bowen, Richard and wife, Sally Bowen; sisters, Sarah Green and Laura Woodard; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mabel Bowen; her husband, Ray Howell; her sister, Nina Burleson; her brothers, Howard and Troy Bowen.
