Betty Arlene McQuaig, age 96 of Pryor, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, at her home. She was born August 31st, 1926, in Mt. Olive, Illinois to John W. Ball and Clara (Paulson) Ball.
Arlene’s family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, June 6th 2023 starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor. Her funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m in the Chapel as well, followed by interment at Lone Chapel Cemetery in Pryor.
Arlene was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Her family was her top priority. Besides her family, she loved fishing, traveling, shopping with her grandchildren (especially at Christmas), playing games and a good margarita.
Growing up in Minneapolis Minnesota, she enjoyed spending time at the lake fishing and swimming in the summer and ice skating during the winter. On June 17th, 1944, Arlene married the love of her life, John McQuaig in Norfolk Virginia. They lived in California for a brief time before settling down in Tulsa, where they raised their family. After her husband John retired they moved to Wagoner where they lived for many years before moving to Pryor where they lived out the remainder of their lives. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage.
Arlene was actively involved in several organizations; the Tulsa Firefighters Women’s Auxiliary and the Wrestling Booster Club. She was a softball coach, a Bluebird leader and Brownie leader. After her husband passed, she was an active member of the Red Hat Society.
Arlene is survived by her son David W. McQuaig and wife Holly, Sharon Lawhorn and husband Tony, daughter Margie Tanner along with daughter-in-law, Lynn McQuaig and son-in-law, Mike Davis. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. Arlene, is preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Clara Ball, husband John McQuaig, her son John Richard McQuaig, daughter Kathy Davis and brother John “Jack” Ball.
Arlene enjoyed a long life and lived it to its fullest. She leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
