Betty Smoke, 78, of Salina, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was born on July 6, 1942 in Spavinaw, Oklahoma; the daughter of Newt and Maggie (Ketcher) Smoke. Betty worked for Cherokee Nation Head Start for over 14 years and enjoyed working as a cook. She also loved working in her garden, tending to both her flowers and vegetables. When a family gathering was to take place, Betty was the one making all the plans and getting them all together. She loved her family and looked forward to spending time with them, going to play bingo and going fishing. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend and leaves behind many memories for her family to cherish.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Jack Ribbon Cemetery in Spavinaw with Clint Smoke, Jarrod Blackfox, Kevin Smoke, Luke Smoke, Jr., Kirby Smoke, Larry Leach serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2021 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Betty is survived by her son, Ed Smoke and wife Nikki of Marble City, Oklahoma; daughter, Arwana DeArmond and husband Timothy of Salina, Oklahoma; brother, Ronnie Smoke of Strang, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Harley and Cherokee Tillerson, and Steven and Maggie Bolin; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Maggie Smoke; daughter, Sheila Bolin; brothers, Henry, Luke and Leroy Smoke; and sister, Sylvia Leach.
