Billy Boyd Hobgood, passed away on November 6, 2023, at the age of 87. He was the son of Oliver Clay and Cordelia Hobgood. He was a hardworking and dedicated partner, spouse, father and grandpa.
Born on September 23, 1936, in Muhlenberg, Kentucky, Bill had a difficult upbringing with his twin brother. His mother died when they were three years old and he and his twin brother, Bobby Lloyd Hobgood, were dropped off on a corner to be found and taken in by a foster family. Despite of his upbringing he became a successful businessman and a devoted father.
He often spoke of missing his siblings, his daughter, Lori Ann, and his son, Dennis, after they passed. His brothers were, Robert Clay Hobgood and twin brother, Bobby Lloyd Hobgood, along with his sisters Mary Beal, Dorothy Mae, Wilda Lee, La Vern Brooks, Sarah E, and Shirley Ann.
Billy moved to Oklahoma and worked at Norris Industries for 30 years as a crane operator, owned a sanitation and office cleaning business on the weekends, and later worked at O'Reillys for 10 years before retiring. He really knew how to talk to people.
Outside of work, Billy had a love for working outdoors, traveling, and visiting family and friends. He also enjoyed listening to country music and watching westerns as a way to relax.
Family played an essential role in Billy's life. He treasured moments spent with Donna McKee, his partner of 14 years. Prior, he was married to Mattie Hobgood, for 42 years until she passed. They had two sons, Dennis and Roger.
Another companion in Billy's life was his furry friend Sammy. Sammy was not just any dog; he was a rescue and service dog who provided companionship and support to Billy throughout their journey together.
A memorial service to celebrate Billy Boyd Hobgood's remarkable life will be held on November 17, 2023, at Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service in Pryor, Oklahoma. The service will begin at 2:00 PM and will be a testament to the impact Billy had on those around him. Friends, family, and community members are invited to join together to honor Billy's memory.
