Billy Cowan

Billy Joe Cowan, 77, of Salina, Oklahoma passed away on April 16, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The son of Claud Janie (Maggard) Cowan, Billy Joe was a lifelong resident of Mayes County. He married Velma Greenway on July 3, 1954 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Billy was employed by McDonnell Douglas of Tulsa as a sheet metal assembler, retiring in the early 1990's. Billy loved his dogs. He enjoyed watching television. In his younger years, Billy enjoyed hunting and fishing. He dearly loved his family and will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel in Pryor with Reverend Junior Mullin officiating. Interment will be in the Bryan Chapel Cemetery at Boatman, Oklahoma with David Cowan, Chris Cowan, Eddie Cowan, Tom Smith, J.J. Terry and John Smith serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Billy Joe is survived by his wife Velma; two sons, Billy Michael Cowan wife Linda of Pryor, OK and Steven Keith Cowan of Salina, OK; 3 grandchildren, Regina Michael Carrels of Muskogee, OK, Chris Cowan of Pryor, OK and Lisa Cowan of Muskogee, OK; two brothers, Donnie Cowan of Rose, OK Carl Lee Cowan of Locust Grove, OK. He was preceded in death by, two brothers, Francis (Stub) Cowan Bob Cowan; four sisters, Bonnie Lair, Mildred Forcom, Jewel Smith, Maxine Brown and his parents, Claud and Janie Cowan.
