Charles Latta Jr.

Charles Latta, Jr, 86, of Pryor, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Pryor. He was born on May 12, 1931 in Evansville, Arkansas; the son of Charles Latta, Sr. and Lucy (Small) Latta. Charley married Elizabeth Joanne Henry on November 21, 1952 and together raised 2 sons. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army for 20 years and 2 days. Charley was a Sergeant 1st class and served 2 tours in Okinawa, 2 tours in Korea, 2 tours in Germany and 1 tour in Vietnam. He enjoyed horses and horse racing. He also was an outdoorsman; he enjoyed going hunting and fishing. Charley also loved to garden and had a large vegetable garden at his home. Charley looked forward to going to the casino and traveling. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed each moment he had with them. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Bobby Ballou officiating. Burial will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Grant Latta, Corey Latta, Ryan Latta, Drew Latta, Justin Latta, Charley Latta serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Dan Doerflinger and Darin Cloud. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. He is survived by his sons, Terry Latta and wife Nowa of Pryor, Oklahoma and Charles Latta III and wife Annette of Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Shirley Tharp of Park City, Kansas, Elsie Marie Bowen and husband Jim of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Doris Bailey of Nash, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth JoAnne Latta; parents, Charles Latta, Sr. and Lucy Hess; and 2 brothers, Richard and Harry.
