Clarence Panther

January 3, 1934 — April 5, 2017

Clarence "CJ" James Panther, 83, of Locust Grove, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was born on January 3, 1934 in Yonkers; the son of John and Betty (Rogers) Panther. CJ has lived in the Mayes County area all his life. He worked construction, and hanging sheetrock for various companies around the area. He married Nellie Sullateskee and together, they raised 4 daughters. He looked forward to attending church services at Faith Baptist Church in Locust Grove and going to gospel singings. CJ enjoyed the outdoors, doing yardwork and playing his guitar. He also looked forward to watching wrestling on television, especially when WWE was on. Most of all, CJ loved his family. He cherished each moment he had to spend with them and looked forward to family gatherings. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2017 in the First Assembly of God Church in Pryor with Lawrence Panther, Gene Green, and Richard Budder officiating. Honorary casket bearers will be Chad Michael Taylor, Chris Buchanan, Tyler Buchanan, Jacob Vernon, and Brett Duniphin. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. CJ is survived by his daughters, Lois Taylor and husband Terry of Pryor, Oklahoma, Linda Vernon of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Charlotte Buchanan and husband Willard of Pryor, Oklahoma; companion, Nellie Downing; brother, Roy Panther of Sulpher, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Panther; wife, Nellie Panther; daughter, Hazel Panther, and 3 brothers.
