Cleta Sue Walker Myrick , 75, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, was born on October 3, 1941, in Ventura, California, the second child of Jean and Paul Walker. She passed away February 23, 2017. Cleta grew up in the Haydonville area, graduating from Nuyaka High School. She furthered her education attending Northeastern State University at Tahlequah. In 1963, Cleta married Joe Myrick in Miami, Oklahoma. They had one son, Richard Myrick. Always creative and a forward-thinker, Cleta's adult life was full. She owned her own business for many years. She worked at Sears in Muskogee. She taught at Vo-Tech in Pryor and Tahlequah. She was cafeteria manager at Chouteau-Mazie schools for many years before retiring. But her true calling was taking care of her family. Cleta was active in many volunteer activities. She served on the Gatesway Advisory Board and was a long-time member of a sorority in Chouteau, where she held many leadership positions.
At Cleta's request, there will be no funeral service. The family will greet visitors at the Senior Citizen building in Chouteau at 111 North McCracken on Sunday, February 26, from 1-4 p.m. To leave her family a message, please visit her Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. She is survived by four sisters: Sharon and Norman Richard of Towanda, KS; Glinna and Tom Fleming of Locust Grove; Brenda Simmons of Tulsa; and Marilyn and Steve Harmon of Blackwell. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends. Cleta was preceded in death by her husband and son, her parents and two brothers, Bob Walker and Larry Walker. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation in Cleta's honor to Chouteau Fire Department, 116 S. Wilder, Chouteau, OK 74337.
