Born January 4, 1946, in Lovington, New Mexico to Howard and LuWanda Young. She was the oldest of
their 4 children.
Late in the evening, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, God wrapped his loving arms around
Darlene and ushered her from her home in Spavinaw into his glorious kingdom.
Darlene will always be remembered as a fun spirited soul who had many passions in life. Some passions
included her Faith in God, travel, and spending time with family, friends, and her pets. She enjoyed
being outside in her garden. Her favorite place to travel is the beach. More specifically Mexico and
Myrtle Beach. She worked throughout her life in Cosmetology and bookkeeping.
She married Ray Alvin Steele in 1971 and they were married for 29 years until his passing. They raised
their children while living in Guthrie, Oklahoma. In 1997 they moved to Spavinaw, Oklahoma as their
final homestead.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents Howard and Wanda Young, Husband Ray Steele, Brother in
law Dalton Jones.
Darlene is survived by her Uncle Buford Porter, children Brad Steele, Cindy Syfert and Celesta (spouse
Roy) Cook. Siblings Dwena (spouse Eddie) Bowman, Jeanie Jones, Ronnie (spouse Dee) Young.
Grandchildren Desirea Casey, Joe Syfert, Dakota Hinman, Garrett Syfert, Johnny Syfert, Braden Syfert.
Great Grandson Paxton Syfert. She is also blessed with many bonus grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and
nephews who all love her dearly.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Spavinaw Cemetery. The family will have a lunch and remembrance for Darlene at her home, immediately following the graveside service. She made an impact on many lives. She will be remembered lovingly for her enormous heart and witty sense of humor.
She will be forever missed. Until we meet again
