Darrell Lee Rye

Adair

Darrell Lee Rye, born on October 26, 1961, in Bakersfield, California passed away on May 15, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many.

Darrell had a passion for serving his community and spent his life doing so. He spent some time as a volunteer firefighter for the Adair community and as a Mayes County Sheriff Reserve Officer. He worked for over twenty-seven years at the water plant for Mayes County District #6 and later worked for Cleveland Integrity for 7 years, and most recently for Lakewood Cabinetry in Langley. His dedication towards his work was an inspiration to many.

When not working, Darrell would often be found indulging in his hobbies and interests such as hunting, fishing, watching Nascar, and OU games, and spending time with his grandkids.  He loved going on trips to the beach or any time spent with his beloved family. Halloween was his favorite holiday, and Corvettes were his favorite car.

Darrell is survived by Bonnie Rye, the love of his life for 30 years; Bucky Gilpin (son) and Ashlyn (daughter-in-law); Brady Gilpin (son) and Jenifer (daughter-in-law); Becky Ohler (daughter), Gerald Rye (father) Steven Rye (brother), Mary (sister-in-law), Kaye Lutz (Sister), Chris Lutz (brother-in-law); nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, two fur babies, Sassy and Jasper, and Drake the snake.

Darrell was preceded in death by Jean Rye (mother) Haskel and Syble Rye (Paternal grandparents) Fredrick and Ruby Warren (Maternal grandparents).

To say that Darrell leaves a big void is an understatement: he will be missed deeply by family members and dear friends who are mourning his loss. The legacy he left behind through his hard work ethic lives on today.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Darrell on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the Adair Community Center from 2 – 4 p.m. To leave his family a personal message, please visit his guestbook at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service of Pryor.
