David A. Copeland, 69, of Locust Grove, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at his home. He was born on November 30, 1952 in Locust Grove, Oklahoma; the son of Silas and Edna (Edwards) Copeland. David faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Jeanie Shoemake, on March 10, 1972 in Garden City, Oklahoma and have celebrated 49 years of marriage. David loved his entire family, and always sacrificed in every way for them. Some of his greatest joys were spending time with grandchildren and outdoor hobbies. Above all, David loved his God and was always willing to share God’s word. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family to cherish and will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, 2022 in the Iron Post Holiness Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma with Pastor Don Martin and Bishop Rick Nance officiating. Burial will follow in the McClain Cemetery with Jeremy Martin, Steve Jones, John Carr, Glenn Boydston, Clark Bresnehen, and Lloyd Coblentz serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Jackie Dick and TJ Dickard. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m., until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor. David is survived by his wife, Jeanie Copeland of the home; sons, Michael Copeland and wife Bethanie of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Ben Copeland and wife Lairen of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brittanie Sulzen and husband Robert, Bindie Copeland, Coil Copeland, and Riata Copeland; great grandchildren, Michael, Carolyn, and Esther Sulzen; brother, Dale Copeland and wife Junie of Bengal, Oklahoma; sisters, Wilma Martin and husband Travis of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Naomi Mersdorf and husband Dennis of Nampa, Idaho, Lorene Alley and husband David of Wilder, Idaho, Rosella Dickard Benny of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and Retha Grisham and husband Matt of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; mother in law, Nelda Shoemake of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother in law, Mike Shoemake and wife Lisa of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; sister in law, Mernie Copeland of Hartshorne, Oklahoma; and brother in law, Malcolm Hasler of Mannford, Oklahoma; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Edna Copeland, and brother, Jearl Copeland; father – in- law, C.E. Shoemake; brothers - in - law, Thomas Dickard and Rodger Benny and sister – in- law, Becky Hasler.
