Deborah "Debbie" Sue Berger, a combat medic for the United States Army who served in Iraq and Germany, passed away on December 29, 2023. Born on November 9, 1966, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Debbie dedicated her life to serving her country and caring for others. Debbie was known for her loving, kind, and patient nature. She had a quick wit and sharp intelligence that endeared her to those around her. Her compassion and selflessness were evident in every aspect of her life, both as a medic and as a loving mother and grandmother. In her military career as a combat medic, Debbie displayed bravery and dedication. She fearlessly entered dangerous situations to provide medical aid to those in need. With unwavering courage, she saved countless lives and brought hope to the frontlines. Her commitment to duty was an inspiration to all who served alongside her. Outside of her military service, Debbie had a passion for gardening. She delighted in the act of planting tomatoes. Debbie also adored her pets. Their companionship provided comfort and peace during difficult times. She loved them deeply and nurtured them with all the love she had to offer. Above all else, Debbie cherished being a grandmother. Nothing brought more joy to her life than spending time with her grandchildren. She showered them with endless love, creating precious memories that will be cherished forever. Her role as a grandmother was one she embraced wholeheartedly, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Debbie Sue Berger's legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her. Her unwavering dedication to serving others and her immense capacity for love touched the lives of many. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit and the memories she created will live on eternally.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Blue Springs Church in Salina with Reverend Lorne Beck officiating. Burial will follow in the Spavinaw - Strang Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor. Debbie is survived by her daughter, Sara Berger of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; father, Charles Nibarger of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; brother, Jim Nibarger of Verdigris, Oklahoma; sister, Kim Rich of Melbourne, Florida; sister in laws, Donna Heath and Dianna Summers of Verdigris, Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Ann Nibarger; uncle, John R. Bell, Jr., and grandparents, John R. and Nellie Bell.
