Delmar Yates

Delmar Lee Yates was born April 19, 1926 in Neosho, Missouri, and departed this life on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2010. His parents were James J. and Osta Yates. During the depression the family moved to Stella, Missouri where Delmar graduated from high school in 1944. He faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy during World War II serving from 1944 until 1946. In 1948, Delmar received an Associate in Arts degree from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri, and graduated in 1949 from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible and Religious Education. In 1950, Delmar married Evelyn Liston, a widow with two young children. He instantly became a father to Marilyn and Sue and soon thereafter, Delmar and Evelyn's daughter June was born. Delmar served as a Baptist pastor for many years in churches throughout Oklahoma, including First Baptist Church, Blue Jacket, OK; Immanuel Baptist Church, Pryor, OK; Trinity Baptist Church, Frederick, OK; Plainview Baptist Church, Tulsa, OK and Pleasant View Baptist Church, Pryor, OK. He later attended Oklahoma Baptist University and received his Bachelor of Science in Hospital Administration in 1970. Delmar served as Assistant Administrator of Grand Valley Hospital in Pryor and later became the Administrator of Bristow Memorial Hospital, Bristow, OK, from which he retired. In his retirement he served as Chaplain of the Stroud Hospital in Stroud, OK. Following the death of his wife, Evelyn in 2000, Delmar relocated to Pryor and married a family friend, Roberta Jobe. He has been a faithful companion to Roberta, helping care for her each day after she entered the Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Pryor. Delmar and Roberta were members of Pleasant View Baptist Church, west of Pryor. At heart, Delmar was a much loved family man; a man of faith; and a man who loved people. . (And a good story.) Funeral Services for Delmar will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pleasant View Baptist Church with Reverend Jerold Pilant officiating. Interment will be in the Bristow City Cemetery in Bristow, Oklahoma with Paul Cox, James Carriger, Donald Shaull, Sherman Long, Rodney Hudson and Lyndell White serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Matthew Cox, Tim Cox, Corey Caldwell and Michael Murphree. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Jobe) Yates, children, Marilyn (and Gene) Murphree, Sue Lawrence, and June Caldwell; grandchildren, Matt Cox (and Jon Jones), Tim (and Julie) Cox, Corey Caldwell, and Mike (and Valerie) Murphree; great grandchildren, Logan Murphree, Clay Murphree, Chris (and Christina) Lawrence, and Jaydyn Cozad. Also sister-in-laws, June Yates and Rosa Lee Olson, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. He is survived by his step-children, Russell Jobe, Barbara Curnutt and Gary Jobe; along with seven step grandchildren, and seven step great grandchildren. Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Yates, siblings, Ellis, Jeff, Robert and Don Yates, as well as, Alma Anderson and Lena Yates Clippinger. Also son-in-laws, Bobbie Cox, Jon Lawrence, and Grady Caldwell. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the many people who have assisted Delmar and Roberta Yates through these past years.
