Earl Hosmer Thompson, 75, of Spavinaw, passed away on January 19, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on June 21, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee; the son of Earl and Bessie (Hosmer) Thompson. He faithfully served his Country in the United States Marine Corp, serving several tours in Vietnam. Earl worked for the Marine Corp as an electronics specialist, electronics teacher and drill instructor, retiring from the military in 1976. He earned his California teaching credential and taught technical courses at Fontera Women's Prison for 12 years. He served his Church in many capacities. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and gardening. Earl loved his family and spending time with each one of them. His great grandchildren called him their "papa daddy." His grandchildren called him grandpa. Earl will always be remembered for being a great Father, Hero, Husband, and Child of God. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation arrangements are pending under the direction of Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service. A memorial service in his honor with full military rites will be held at a later date. Earl is survived by his wife, Eva Thompson, of the home; 2 sons, Kenneth and wife Elizabeth Bailey of Spavinaw, Oklahoma and Hugh and wife Sherry Bailey of Pryor, Oklahoma; 1 daughter, Rebecca Brinkman of Pryor, Oklahoma; 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; also many other relatives and friends.
