Edna Copeland

Edna Lorene (Edwards) Copeland, 91, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on December 31, 1924, Murphy, Oklahoma to Arthur Brenton Edwards and Elva Florence (Kelley) Edwards. She married Silas Copeland on September 3, 1941. Edna was a wonderful cook; especially her biscuits and gravy were enjoyed by all. She enjoyed family, singing, playing the guitar and piano, fishing, gardening and canning. In later years, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and word search. She worked as a seamstress in several sewing factories, retiring from King Louie at age 71. Edna was a member of the Iron Post Free Holiness Church at Locust Grove, where she was active and always ready to witness to others of the love and mercy of her Lord. She was a lovely woman of faith who has taught her children and grandchildren well, leaving them the legacy of the love of God and Family. Funeral services for Edna will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 1:00 p.m., at the Iron Post Free Holiness Church with Reverend Travis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the McClain Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the Iron Post Free Holiness Church south of Locust Grove from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday evening. She is survived by three sons, Jearl and Mernie Copeland of Hartshorne, OK, David and Jeanie Copeland of Locust Grove, OK, Dale and June Copeland of Bengal, OK; five daughters, Wilma and Travis Martin of Locust Grove, OK, Naomi and Dennis Mersdorf of Wasilla, AK, Lorene and David Alley of Wilder, ID, Rosella Benny of Flippin, AR and Retha Dunn of Sand Springs, OK; sisters, Leona Marquart of Great Falls, MT, and Lillie Simpson of Afton, OK; 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Elva Edwards; her brothers, Clifford, Arvil, Herman, Lonnie, Benjamin and Leo Edwards; sister, Zelma Dewey; and sons - in - law, Thomas Dickard and Rodger Benny. She is preceded in death by her husband, Silas Copeland and her parents, Arthur Brenton Edwards and Elva Florence (Kelley) Edwards.
