Edna Rice

August 9, 1932 — September 27, 2020

Edna Earl Rice, 88, of Salina, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 in Salina, Oklahoma. She was born in Shamrock, Texas; the daughter of James Walter Haley and Willie Edna (Blevins) Haley. Edna Earl married the love of her life, Burl “Peanuts” Rice on December 20, 1951. She worked as a homemaker all of her life, tending to her husband and children. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Salina, and looked forward to teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was even the youth director for a while. She loved singing gospel music, sewing, crocheting and working on alterations for her family and friends. Edna Earl loved her town and community and was the curator for the Chouteau Memorial for a time, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held the position of President. She also owned Green Country Shoe Store on Ferry Street for many years. Edna was a wonderful woman of faith who leaves behind a lasting legacy for her family to remember.

Funeral services for Edna Earl will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020 in the Salina First Baptist Church in Salina with Reverend Johnny Faught officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross – Mayes Cemetery with Adam King, Ryan Rice, Rudy Rice, Stacy Inman, Chisholm Rice, and Trevor Rice serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Coy Alexander, Johnnie Hanna, Brandon Merritt, Clay Rice, Alex King, Becket Rice, Hudson Rice, Keegan Rice, Bob Rice, Sloan Inman, Kyle Rice, Keith Rice, and Corey Rice. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2020 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. To leave her family a message, please visit her Tribute Wall at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Edna Earl is survived by her sons, Ronnie Rice and wife Ronda of Salina, Oklahoma, Billy Rice and wife Darlene of Salina, Oklahoma, and Greg Rice and wife Katherine of Salina, Oklahoma; daughter, Janet Snow and husband Tim of Southwest City, Missouri; sister, Ola Goyer and husband Dale of Owasso, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Willie Haley; husband, Burl “Peanuts” Rice; grandson, Garland King; great grandson, Cooper Rice; 10 brothers, and 2 sisters.
