Elsworth "Hoot" Hammer

Elsworth Hammer, also known as Hoot, 82, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at his home. Born on July 9, 1940, in his hometown of Pryor, he was the son of Ellsworth and Elizabeth (Purcell) Hammer. Receiving his masters from Oklahoma State University, he dedicated many years as a social worker for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. He enjoyed listening to the radio and walking often in the park. Hoot was a history buff and enjoyed anything to do with the subject. He also looked forward to having lunch with his friends at the CARD Pryor Senior Center. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family, especially his niece Elizabeth Ann and nephew, Alan Jr. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his loved ones to cherish and will be dearly missed.

A funeral service for Hoot will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023, in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Yarborough of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nephew, Alan Yarborough of Pryor, Oklahoma; immediate cousins, Becky Ramsey and Herb Hammer, along with a host of cousins and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellsworth and Elizabeth Hammer.
