Emma Boen

July 11, 1929 — May 4, 2015

Emma Jean Horner was born July 11, 1929 in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Albert Clarence and Jessie (Dewey) Horner. She departed this life Monday, May 4, 2015 in Tulsa at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 23 days. Emma attended Chelsea, Bushyhead and Greer schools. In early 1944 her family moved to California, but following the sudden unexpected death of her father in August of that year, she returned to Chelsea with her mother and siblings. She met William Luther Emery in Claremore and the two were married in 1948. They made their home in and around Claremore. Emma was a wife, mother, and homemaker, and together they raised 8 children with little time or money for anything else. "Willie" passed away in 1979 and Emma went to work as a custodian with the Claremore Public Schools. It was during this time she met an old friend from her youth, Wayne Timmerman, and the two eventually married. They spent only five years together as he also died in 1990. Emma retired and moved into a senior citizen complex where she met and married John Calvin "JC" Boen. Together they actively attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Pryor. They loved their church, pastor and church family, and enjoyed listening to southern gospel music. Upon his death in 2008, Emma moved to the Wood Manor Nursing Home, where she resided at the time of her passing. There she made friends and reconnected with a few others from her past. It was there she became acquainted with Mary Moffett, a volunteer in the home, who would become a steadfast and trusted friend throughout the closing days of her life, following the deaths of her children. Emma's greatest passion in life was her family, but her faith and strength were rooted in her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was tough and resilient and certainly no stranger to loss and sadness. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husband, six children, Norma Jean Horner, Carolyn Brassfield, Linda Blanke, Gary Emery and two unnamed infants. She was also preceded by two step children, Bill Emery and Sue Robinson, her granddaughter, Pamela Blanke, sons-in-law, John Blanke, John Avants and her brother Charles Lee Horner. She is survived by her sister, Betty Watkins of Chelsea, OK; sister in law, Sarah Horner of Chandler, AZ; three step children, Wayne Emery and wife, Shirley of Eagle River, AK, Patricia Avants of Salem, OR, David Emery and wife, Kathy of Mountain Home, AR; she is also survived by 20 grandchildren, Robert Blanke, Dorn Avants, Michael, James, John, Larry, Bill and Charlie Emery, Patricia Freeman, Mary Meyers, Amy Brassfield, Michele Blevins, Misty Schoendaller, Renee Smith, Barbara Price, Teresa Robinson, Tammie Sanchez, Kim Corbari, Leah Sayers, Mary Emery, and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
