Ernest Schneider

August 5, 1946 — June 8, 2016

Ernie passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Muskogee after a brave battle with cancer. He was 69. He was born August 5, 1946 in Tulsa, OK to Walter Eugene and Luella (Scarborough) Schneider. Ernie served in the Armed Forces with the United States Army from 1964 to 1967 in the 522 QM in Idar-Oberstein unit. After serving his country he went to truck driving school. He was a well-respected, long-haul truck driver, but he was also a skilled pilot, seasoned ham radio operator, mechanic and photographer. But the best thing he ever did in his life, was accepting the Lord as his savior. Seems that's when he was able to put his life in perspective. His desire to right all the wrongs in his life was important to him. He loved deeply, and privately and wasn't one to draw attention to himself. Although Ernie had a rough start in life, as so many of us do, with many mistakes and heart aches, he was always a good person, willing to help his fellow man. He strived to be the best he could be in everything he did. What he did seek in life, Barbara seemed to offer. They loved each other and were good for one another. She was always very protective of their relationship and to the very end, a devoted wife. His kids were his pride and joy. They each held a special, sacred place in his heart. Like his own father, being a man of few words, that pride and joy for his children fueled his desire to succeed. Ernie always cherished family vacations, always returning with many pictures and stories willing to share with anyone who might be interested. He was also a help to other family members. When he heard of a need, he would respond without thought of himself or how hard the work or job might be, and never expecting anything in return. He loved being helpful. He spent many hours with his grandpa Schneider, here in Pryor, savoring the memories from long ago. Ernie was a kind hearted, quiet soul that always looked for the bright side of things. He was a deep thinker and never complained about the tough times. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2016 in the Southside Christian Church with Reverend K.E. Gerhart officiating. To leave his family a message, please visit his Book of Memories at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, of their home in Pryor, his son, Robert Schneider and daughter-in-law Crystal, 5 daughters: Heidi Turner of the home, Sara True and son-in-law Kyle, Brittanie Schneider, serving in the Air Force, Rebecca Bonds and Traci Schneider and his grandchildren. He's also survived by his mother, Luella Schneider, Sister Linda Shaffer and brother, Randy Schneider. Ernie was preceded in death by his two precious sons, Davy and Aaron and his father, Walter Eugene and Grandfather Walter Ernst.
