Fay Lorene (Payne) Barnes, 91, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away December 3, 2014 in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was born on March 4, 1923 in Vinita, Oklahoma, the daughter of Oscar and Mary (Long) Payne. Fay was the ninth child in a family of ten. She was raised working in the fields of Colorado and had many stories to tell of those years. Fay was proud of her family and truly loved each one. Fay had received Jesus as her personal Savior when she was 17 years old, thus being a Christian for 74 years. She married William Earl Barnes on December 10, 1942, in Tacoma, Washington. They were married for 63 years before he passed away in 2006. Her friendship was real and her walk with her Savior was genuine. Her spiritual gift was hospitality, with many folks enjoying her cooking and baking. She also made handmade quilts for her many offspring. Fay was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Pryor, where she had occasionally played her guitar in services. She had worked as a Certified Nurse Aide, and for many years as a "School Granny" both in Jay and in Pryor Elementary Schools. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in the Pleasant View Baptist Church with Reverend Jerold Pilant officiating. Interment will be in the Indianola Cemetery with Troy Barnes, Thomas Bradshaw, William Bradshaw, Scott Barnes, Clyde Hoffman and Brian Hendrickson serving as casket bearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to the Alzheimer's Association at 2448 E. 81st St., Suite 3000, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74137. Fay is survived by her three children; sons, William Barnes, Jr., and wife Gloria of Glenoma, WA, Scott Barnes and wife Arletta of Silver Creek, WA, and daughter, Earlene and husband Richard Bradshaw of Adair, Oklahoma; 23 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 9 great - great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. Fay also leaves three very special ladies, Janet, Donna and Debie. Fay is preceded in death by her husband, parents, Oscar and Mary Payne, four brother, and 5 sisters; one grandson, and one great great granddaughter.
