Florence Evalena Shaffer Obituary (2024) - Pryor, Oklahoma (gather.app)
Florence Evalena (Holland) Shaffer was born March 31, 1934, she was ushered into the presence of the Lord on the morning of February 22, 2024, there to take up her crown that she might lay it at the feet of her Savior. Pentecostal by experience, holiness of life and a faithful servant’s heart marked by her pattern of a Godly life. She was born in Waldron, Arkansas to Nathaniel Lee Holland and Minnie D. Ellsworth Holland. She was the youngest of nine siblings. February 22, 2024, in Salina, Oklahoma, at age 89, she joined her late husband Jack Raymond Shaffer in Heaven. She was a pastor’s wife, mother, and homemaker. Florence attended several country schools in Scott County, Arkansas, during her childhood. She was born again in 1947, receiving Christ as her Lord and served Jesus the rest of her life. As a young girl she participated in singing and playing instruments during street services with a Pentecostal church in Waldron, Arkansas. Florence and her mother moved to California in the 1950s, where she graduated from high school in Sanger and earned her vocational nursing degree. Florence attended Bible college in Gilroy, Calif., where she met her husband, Pastor Jack R. Shaffer. They married June 1, 1957, in Sanger, Calif. Florence was ordained as a minister by the Pentecostal Church of God.
Florence and Jack had five children and were married for 66 years until his death on September 12, 2023. They lived in Montana, Utah, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, California, Virginia, and Oklahoma, serving the Lord together in ministry. Florence had a strong alto voice. She sang and played the accordion in church, and also played the mandolin. She taught Sunday school and children’s church. Florence was known for her home cooking and breadmaking skills. Many friends and family members enjoyed her homemade hot rolls. She hosted many tasty meals for fellow ministers, missionaries, evangelists and family and friends over the years.
Florence is survived by daughter Mavis Yates and husband Robert of Pryor, Okla., son Joel Shaffer and wife Kimberly of Chelsea, Okla., son Michael Shaffer and wife Lisa of Roanoke, Va., son Andrew Shaffer and wife Becky of Pryor, Okla., and daughter Joanna and husband Nathan of Westminster, S.C. Also surviving are her 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack, her parents, and siblings Okla House, Orin Holland, Lawrence Holland, Arvil Cox, Worth Holland, Wayne Holland, George Holland and Doris Cox.
