Gary Pyle

Gary Dale Pyle, 63 of Chouteau, OK passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2011. He was born October 10, 1947 in Guymon, OK. He was the son of Ernie and Doris (Stafford) Pyle and was raised in Hooker, OK. After attending Hooker High School, he worked in Liberal, KS for a couple of years and then moved to Tulsa, OK. In Tulsa, Gary built pools for a couple of years and then met Pam Wright. They married November 19, 1970 and welcomed their daughter, Dena, into their lives March 16, 1971. Gary continued building swimming pools and worked many long hours which affected his family. In 1978, he moved to the Denver, CO area where he built pools for a while. A couple years later, he bought a small bar and café on the South Platte River and lived in that area several years before returning to Tulsa. Upon returning to Tulsa, Gary sold cars for a bit and in 1992 moved to Chouteau. He began working at a tavern and two years later bought it, owning and operating Gary's Pit Stop where he enjoyed the rest of his life. Gary was a people person and didn't know a stranger. He made strong friendships over the years and enjoyed having cookouts, going fishing, boating, and playing golf with his friends. Gary also enjoyed sponsoring boat races, on one occasion taking his grandson with him and looking forward to taking both grandsons again this August. Gary nearly lost his life and lost part of his right shoulder in a hunting accident. He also had numerous surgeries including five back surgeries, two hip replacements, and a neck surgery. Despite these health setbacks and experiencing continuous chronic pain, Gary always kept a positive spirit, enjoyed connecting with people, and offered many good stories and laughs along the way. He is much loved by his family and friends and he will be missed by all of us. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel with Reverend Raymond Vogt officiating. Gary is survived by his daughter Dena Jasna and husband Shawn, grandchildren, Colton, Sonny, and Sierra of Sallisaw, OK; sister, Hijuana Balzer and husband, Ron of Broken Arrow, OK; and brother, Terry Pyle and wife, Pat of Mooreland, OK and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
