Gene Delain Shelton, 83, of Chouteau, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2012 at his home. He was born on June 27, 1929 in Eakly, Oklahoma in Caddo County, the son of Park Shelton and Virginia Moine Shelton. He moved to Oklahoma from Arizona in 1999. He faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy, serving two tours during the Korean Conflict. He obtained his Engineering Degree after the service. Gene enjoyed ranching and owned his own in Buckeye, Arizona where he broke his own horses and for others. He married Vickie Jacobs on April 12, 1999 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Gene loved to play golf and even had his own golf course at his home, Cow Pasture Golf Course, where he taught not only his grandchildren but other children to play the sport. He made his grandchildren's golf clubs, making new ones as they grew. Gene enjoyed watching old movies including anything with John Wayne in them. He was a member of the LDS Church in Pryor. Gene dearly loved his family and all the time spent with them. He will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside Military Services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Brother Gisbert Gebhard and Brother Bob Giguiere. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. The family asks memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Oklahoma - Arkansas Chapter, 2448 E. 81st St. Suite 3000, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74137 in Gene's memory. Gene is survived by his wife, Vickie of the home; his two sons, Gene Shelton Jr. of Arizona and Kevin Shelton; his step-son, Matthew Brownlee of Virginia; two daughters, Shawn and Alecia; step-daughter, Allie Smith of Chouteau, OK; his brother, Larry Shelton of Claremore, OK; his aunt, Shirley Nixon of Pryor, OK; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Park and Moine Shelton; his sister, Geraldine Sandusky.
