George Leon Braswell, born on September 12, 1946, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, passed away on June 04, 2023, in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was a loving husband to Karen Braswell and a devoted father to his three children John Braswell, George Braswell, and Christine Cavins.
George had an outstanding career in the military; he was a Chief Master Sergeant in the Air Force of the United States of America. He served in many capacities of leadership roles where his primary area of expertise was telecommunications. He was a pioneer in modern-day technology and electronics communication. George's expertise contributed to the early development of fiber optics technology, which helped move the government's communication to modern-day digital global satellite and computer capabilities. George earned many prestigious awards for his service to the country; some notable honours include Master Communicator, Master Instructor, Master Missile Man, fourteen service medals (including seven good conduct medals for exceptional service to the United States). Furthermore, he was an Automatic Firearms expert and handgun expert.
After leaving active duty with the military, he worked primarily in the fishing industry while also pursuing other passions. A jack of all trades- singer, recording artist, writer, inspirational speaker, chaplain, counselor and fishing consultant. He married the love of his life, Karen Haley, and they have celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage. George is remembered by his loved ones as an inspiration and mentor who led by example throughout his life. His passion for fishing allowed him to thrive not only professionally but also through numerous hobby activities including professional fishing tournament trials that helped him explore his inner competitive side. He also was able to work his dream profession later in life as Field Promotions and public relations representative with Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. George will be remembered as a family-oriented person who fostered strong ties built on love and care for all those that surrounded him. He will be missed dearly, but his memories and legacy will continue to live through his family and friends he impacted over the years.
The services for George Leon Braswell include a visitation on Wednesday, June 07, 2023, at Shipman's Funeral & Cremation Service from 06:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at Blue Springs Church on Thursday, June 08, 2023 at 10:00 AM and will be followed by Burial Services at Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with John Braswell, George Braswell, Joe Braswell, Joseph Braswell, Christian Cavins, and Steve Haley serving as casket bearers. George is survived by his wife, Karen Braswell of the home; sons, John Braswell and wife Deana of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and George Braswell and wife Ariel of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Christine Cavins and husband Christian of McKinney, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Joseph Braswell, Nora Braswell, Finn Braswell, Kennedy Braswell, Carter Cavins, and Callen Cavins; brother, David Braswell of PRyor, Oklahoma; and sisters, Sharon Zern and husband Leidy of Burnsville, North Carolina, Katherine Braswell, and Tessa Sills and husband Brad of Andover, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna Christine (Ritchie) Braswell; step mother, Ruth Braswell; and brothers, Paul and Phillip Braswell.
