Gerald Reed Hugley, 91, of Pryor, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at his home. He was born on October 31, 1930, in Almena, Kansas to George Harvey Hugley and Maude Fourtner Hugley. After high school, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He earned a master’s degree in education, and taught at Pittsburg State University and Ketchum, along with his closest friend for 45 years, Jack G. Rakestraw. He was a long-time resident of Mayes County and a member of the American Legion, National Education Association, and the Oklahoma Education Association. Gerald leaves behind many wonderful memories, loving family and friends, and lessons of love and wisdom from his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Gerald will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the Adair United Methodist Church with Dr. O.R. Nunley, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Ghormley Cemetery with Steve Stutzman, Chad Poe, J.D. Rakestraw, Richard Fletcher, Jacob Scheffel, and Jonathan Scheffel serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Patricia Hugley Burrall, Twila Jean Hugley, Karen Mitchell, Alan Dale Hugley, Kathleen Hugley-Cook, and David Glen Hugley. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2022, at Shipman’s Funeral Home. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Harvey and Maude; brother, Dale George Hugley; and sister, Melva Mae Hampton.
