Gisbert Emil Gebhard, a loving husband, dedicated father, cherished grandfather and respected great-grandfather passed away on Tuesday, July 30,2024, in his home, at the age of 87. He was born on October 6, 1936, in Konstanz, Germany; the son of Gustav and Frieda (Brunner) Gebhard. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found joy in genealogy, birdwatching, journaling, traveling, writing, playing his piano, fellowshipping, and his wife’s cooking. He was also well known for being "That German Wallpaper’r" who whistled whilst he hung rolls of wallpaper for the majority of his working career.
In his journey of life, Gisbert achieved great milestones. On October 12, 1959, he married his beloved wife, Berta Häusler, in Hagnau am Bodensee, Germany. Together they shared 64 years filled with love and companionship. In 1966, Gisbert moved his family of four to the United States where he developed a great admiration for his new home & country. Learned the English language and earned his citizenship. His unwavering patriotism was evident as he proudly raised the American flag each day.
Gisbert will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Berta Gebhard; sons, Joachim Gebhard and wife Gena, Michael Gebhard, and Peter Gebhard and wife Jenny; daughters, Christine Gebhard and Birgit Gebhard-Smith and husband Daniel; along with 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Gisbert's life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Shipman's Funeral Home in Pryor.
