Gladys Kerns

Gladys Iwilda Kerns, 88, of Salina, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on December 30, 1923 in Little Kansas, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jess and Beulah (Harp) Chancellor. Gladys had lived in the Salina area all her life. She married Roy W. Kerns on August 14, 1941 in Pryor, Oklahoma. She had worked for area nursing homes as a nurse aide and also as a personal caregiver for several in our community. She was a foster mother to many children. Gladys loved to bake pies for her family and friends to enjoy and they loved for her to bake them. Gladys enjoyed cooking and canning. In later years she enjoyed watching politics on CNN and CSNBC. She also enjoyed watching music shows. She would visit for hours tying up the phone line with her friends she sang in the choir with. Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose family was her pride and joy. She will be remembered in all their wonderful memories of her. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Verdigris United Methodist Church in Verdigris, Oklahoma located south of Claremore on Hwy 66, turn right at stop light by Quik Trip cross railroad tracks church is on left. Pastor Mark Whittey will be officiating. Interment will be in the Ross-Mayes Cemetery at Salina, Oklahoma with Danny Chancellor, Darrell Kirk, Bobby Martin, Rex Chancellor, Vernon Chancellor, Randy Chancellor and Dennis Chancellor serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Larry Chancellor, Billy Kerns, Robert Kerns and Kenny Kerns. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. She is survived by her sons, Troy and wife, Chiquita Kerns of Salina, OK and Jerry Kerns of Hollis, OK; her daughter, Judy and husband, Cloyd Parrish of Claremore, OK; her brothers, Gene and wife, Bonnie Chancellor of Salina, OK and Ralph Chancellor of Kenwood, OK; her sister, Donnis Clinton of Wyandotte, OK; her sister-in-laws, June Kerns of Kenwood, OK and Wanda "Bubby" Chancellor of Salina, OK; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a foster daughter, Sherry Kurth of Catoosa, OK; her guardian Angel, Lorrene Griffin; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Beulah Chancellor; her husband, Roy W. Kerns in 1999; one son, Marvin Kerns; 5 brothers, Lester, Ervie, J.G., Norman and Leroy Chancellor; 1 sister, Edith Kirk.
