J.E. Stiles, 87, of Adair, passed away at his home in Adair. He was born on January 26, 1925 in Denison, Texas, the son of John Everett Stiles and Martha May (Willis) Stiles. His family moved to Lookeba, OK, where J.E. started attending public school in 1931. During high school he played basketball and baseball and graduated high school in 1943. Inducted into the Navy in June 1943, he faithfully served his country until discharge in January 1946 with the rank of Aerial Ordnanceman 3rd class. J.E. received ordnance training in Norman, OK , at the Naval Air Technical Training Center and received aerial gunnery training at Alameda Naval Air Training School. He was then assigned to Los Alamitos as a general service ordnanceman. J.E. enrolled in September 1946 at Southwestern State College, in Weatherford, Ok, which is currently called Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He graduated in May 1950 with a degree in business administration. J.E. was a member of Beta Tau Beta fraternity and was chapter secretary for 2 years. He also served for 6 years on the Beta Tau Beta Alumni Association Board of Directors. After graduation, J.E. worked for T.D. Williamson in Tulsa. While in Tulsa, J.E., met his wife Doris Robinson. They were married February 14, 1954. In 1960, he left T.D. Williamson and began working for the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax Examiner. In 1962, he was promoted to Field Revenue Officer responsible for investigating delinquent tax returns. He held this position until August 1970. J.E. then began clearing land purchased near Adair, OK, for a new home. In 1971, J.E. along with his father - in - law, Richard Robinson, started building the new home. He would drive from the family's Tulsa home to Adair to deliver his son David to school and then go to work on the home. After completing the home, J.E. worked as a substitute rural letter carrier until 1984 when he began taking care of Doris full time when her rheumatoid arthritis worsened. After Doris' passing in January 1994, he began pursuing several hobbies including genealogy, photography, assisting with organizing Beta Tau Beta reunions and Navy reunions for the Norman, Alameda, and Los Alamitos duty stations. J.E. was also a 32nd degree mason and was a long time member of the American Legion. He enjoyed feeding, watching and identifying birds, especially hummingbirds. J.E. and his family attended Methodist churches in Tulsa and Adair. J.E. is survived by his son, David and wife, Patricia Stiles of Wagoner, OK; and niece, Karen Dunn of Tulsa, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Everett Stiles and Martha May (Willis) Stiles, and his wife, Doris Robinson Stiles. A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Pryor at Shipman's Funeral Cremation Service with Reverend Earl Cobb officiating.
