James Carter

James Patrick Carter, 66, of Pryor, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on May 8, 1949 in Tulsa; the son of Patrick L. and Betty Jo (Maderia) Carter. James faithfully served his country in the United States Navy as an electrical mate 3rd class from 1968 until 1972. James earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. James married Marianne on April 16th, 1976 in Lee Hall, Virginia. He received electrical education and became an electrical tester for Baker Hughes for 8 years, then moving to an operator for Alleghany Ludlum for 19.5 years. James and Marianne moved to Pryor in 1983, coming from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He enjoyed spending time outdoors; especially when he was fishing. James also enjoyed woodworking and spending time with family and friends. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2016 in the Graham Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. James is survived by his sons; Melvin Ellinger II of Pryor, Oklahoma and William Ellinger of Inola, Oklahoma; daughter, Georjett Robins and husband Ross of Pryor, Oklahoma; sisters, Shirley Brook of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Patricia Carter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
