James Irvin Clevenger, 70, of Chouteau, passed away on July 1, 2019 at his home. He was born on January 6, 1949 in Stilwell, Oklahoma; the son of Irvin and Lorraine (Lewis) Clevenger. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps and served during Vietnam. James married the love of his life, Cathy, on April 17, 1971 at First Baptist Church in Chouteau and have celebrated over 48 years of marriage. He attended the Draughn’s School of Business, was a farmer, and also worked as a heavy equipment operator for Lonestar, which later turned into Buzzi Unicem. James was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pryor. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and leaves behind many memories for his family to cherish.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in the First Baptist Church in Pryor with Doctor Mike Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Chouteau North Cemetery with Jay Applegate, Darrel Watkins, Wesley Froese, Walter Eck, Aaron Froese, and Paul Mobley serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be LM Woodson, Jim Forrest, and Jerry Russell. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Shipman’s Funeral Home. James is survived by his wife, Cathy Clevenger of the home; son, Matthew Clevenger and wife Honey May Clevenger of Springdale, Arkansas; daughter, Sarah Redman and husband Joe of Littleton, Colorado; sisters, Janice Brewer of Stilwell, Oklahoma and Cheryl Mahan and husband John of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Lorraine Clevenger, and son, Russell Clevenger.
