James Hollis

James "Wilbur" Hollis, 90, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was born on February 13, 1922 in Gatesville, Wagoner County, near Porter, Oklahoma. Wilbur graduated from Pryor High School in 1940. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy as a surveyor in the Seabees. After leaving the Service, he married Wanda Gene Hughes on August 19, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas at the home of a Baptist minister. They had celebrated 66 years together at her passing in 2012. Wilbur owned and operated several service stations. He enjoyed fishing , bowling, and playing golf. Wilbur especially enjoyed sports, playing American Legion baseball and basketball. He continued to follow sports all his life. He played pool and enjoyed going to horse races. Wilbur loved his children and grandchildren, always enjoying the time spent with them. He loved his dog, Dandy. Wilbur was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pryor. He was baptized there in 1939. Wilbur leaves a legacy of love for his Lord, his family, and his country for his family to cherish and follow. Funeral services for Wilbur will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Shipman's Funeral Chapel with Dr. Mike Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Graham Memorial Cemetery with Derrall Bell, Lynn Parks, Mike Bradshaw, Chris Brassell, Brett Batson and Pat Green serving as casket bearers. Wilbur is survived by his daughters, Sharol and husband, Jim Batson of Tulsa, OK and Kellye Hollis of Dallas, TX; his sister, Helen Bradshaw of Lewisville, TX; his three grandchildren, Jayme and Chris Brassell, Brett and Kim Batson and Lindsey and Pat Green; his six grandchildren, Griffin, Macy, Murphy, Isley, Fennin and Teddy; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Gene Hollis and his son, Jimmy Hollis.
