James Ray Moore

James Ray Moore, 81, born on September 5, 1943, in Salina, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his home in Locust Grove. He served honorably in the United States Army, embodying a spirit of dedication and service throughout his life.

James was known for his passion for horses and the equestrian community. He enjoyed attending horse sales, where he bought tack and horses, showcasing his love for the craftsmanship involved in the trade. His hands were skilled, as he often rebuilt horse trailers and wagons; a testament to his resourcefulness and pride in his work was the stagecoach he built from the ground up, an endeavor that brought him immense satisfaction.

He is survived by his children, Kenneth Moore and wife Cristy of Pryor, OK; daughters, Renee Wilsie of Locust Grove, OK, Teresa Moore of Hutchison, KS, and Madalyn Moore of the home. He also leaves behind a brother, Jesse Sanders and wife Paula of Hutchison, KS; a sister, Mary Davison and Kerri of Lyons, KS; and a collection of grandchildren: Brittany Church-Metcalf, Robert and Mrittanie Shelly, Jaron and Makayla Vaughn, Mary Moore and Levi Montgomery, and Dakota and Lexi Moore, along with 11 great-grandchildren; and nephew, Darrell Moore, who always called James, "Pops." Additionally, James cherished the companionship of his special friend, Vanetta Turtle.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Lora and Jesse Sanders, James Moore, and Dora (Shrum) McClelland; his wife, Linda Moore; brothers, Johnny Moore, Paul Moore, Larry McClelland, and Marvin Carr; sisters, Rosie Shrum, Sue Ennis, Shirley Bruffet, and Delores Dunback; and his grandson, Charlie Moore.

Funeral services for James will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel in Pryor with Pastor Bob Kilman and Chaplain Halston Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Benge Cemetery with Darrell Moore, Paul Moore, Jimmy Moore, Wayne Moore, Johnny Moore, and Charlie Moore serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers include Jesse Sanders and Brandon McClelland. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Shipman's Funeral Home.
