James Lewis Procter of Adair, Oklahoma retired after 30 years dairy farming passed away on June 16, 2010 in Inola, Ok. He was 91. Mr. Procter was the son of Bryan Thomas Procter Gladys (Poe) Procter he was born on February 23, 1919 in St. Joseph, MO, the family returned to Oklahoma shortly thereafter. He attended Bitter Creek School and graduated from Adair High School in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was a Staff Sergeant in the 57th Field Artillery (C Battery) and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for heroic action. He was united in marriage to Maxine Compton on April 10, 1946 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church and served as Deacon for 62 years. He also was an A.I. technician for some 47 years and won the Master Dairyman award. He tested D.H.I.A. milk for 15 years. He served on the Adair City Council; he was a Charter Member of Pryor American Legion and a lifetime member of the D.A.V Chapter 43 and a member of Grange. He was an avid fan of Adair High School athletics. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, quail hunting, bird dogs, playing cards, and dominos; he loved to travel, and being with family and church family. He will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church of Adair, Oklahoma. The Reverends Eddy Mathews L.F. Chronister will officiate and burial will follow in Pleasant Hope Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of the Shipman's Funeral Cremation Service of Pryor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan and Gladys Procter.
