James Vern Raper, 54, of Kenwood, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 3, 1960 in Claremore; the son of Willie and Myrtle (Henson) Raper. He attended Kenwood schools and lived in the area all his life. James worked as a heavy equipment operator for Cherokee Nation and as a truck driver. He married Lillian Buck on August 20, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kenwood. He loved to watch OU football and the New York Jets. James also had a special love for Salina Wildcats Sports as well as Kenwood. He also enjoyed making fishing jigs. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kenwood. He loved spending time with his family and especially his two grandchildren, Konner and Brantley. He will be remembered by all the memories he leaves behind and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services for James will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 in the Kenwood Gymnasium with Anthony Ross and Reverend Aaron Robinson officiating. Interment will be in the Euwasha Cemetery with Anthony Proctor, Robert Scott, Andrew Hair, Dennis Chancellor, George Hair, Willard Oosahwee, Mark King, and Tim King serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be William Littledave, Jr., Leroy Leaf, Jeff O'field and Marwin Leaf. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2014 in the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kenwood. James is survived by his wife, Lillian Raper, of the home; 2 sons, Cullen Raper and fiancé Jordan of Kenwood and Cameron Raper of Kenwood; 3 daughters, Hillary and husband Derek Brickey of Kenwood, Lila and husband Darwin Davis of Kenwood, and Justine Raper of Kenwood; his mother, Myrtle Raper of Kenwood; 1 brother, Mark Raper of Kenwood; 4 sisters, Emily and husband Aaron Robinson of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Eleanor and husband Tony Butler of Hulbert, Oklahoma, Esther and husband Lowell Russell of Anadarko, Oklahoma, and Melody and husband Joel Turner of North Carolina. James is preceded in death by his father, Willie Raper, his granddaughter, Kennedy Brickey and many other relatives.
