James “Jimmy” Fred Powell, Jr., 77, of Adair, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Chouteau. He was born on May 17, 1941 in Pryor; the son of James Fred and Irene (Cain) Powell. He graduated from Adair High School in 1959 and after graduation went on to begin college at OSU and earned his teaching degree. He taught at Adair Public Schools as a carpentry instructor and was a volunteer firefighter for Adair for many years. He also worked for his father building houses and enjoyed working with his hands. Jimmy enjoyed fast cars, traveling, and movies. He also enjoyed talking and visiting with his friends and family, and always had a story to tell. He was a wonderful, loving and hardworking man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2018 in the Shipman’s Funeral Home Chapel. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Roberta Powell of the home; sons, James Fred Powell III “Jim” and wife Marsha Powell of Salt Lake City, Utah, Dr. Ronald Lee “Ron” Powell and wife Dr. Shawn Dunn of Michigan, and Jason Robert Powell of Claremore, Oklahoma; step daughters, Rebecca Tune and husband Clint of Adair, Oklahoma and Melanie McElyea of St. Petersburg, Florida; chosen sister, Peggy McCoy - Watson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; special aunt, Barbara Gale Pritchett of Pryor, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 2 nieces; 2 nephews; many cousins friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Fred Powell, Sr. “Jim” and Irene Lydia (Cain) Powell, brothers, Bobby Powell and Jerry Powell; step son, Nathan David McElyea.
