Jay Lee Jackson, age 91 years, 6 months, and 15 days went to his eternal home on Thursday, February 21, 2019. He was born on August 6, 1927, in Tulsa Oklahoma, to the late Jack M. Jackson and late Mavis Mae (Marlin) Jackson. Jay was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Belle (Owings) Jackson; his brothers, Mirrell M. Jackson, Jack M. Jackson; and sister, Effie U. (Jackson) Dunlap. He served during WWII in the U. S. Navy and later married Anna Belle on November 17, 1948; that special lady who was the love of his life and wife of nearly 69 years. In his business life, he managed and owned service stations and auto mechanic repair facilities and later owned and operated two NAPA Auto Parts Supply stores.
He is survived by three daughters: Debbie Lea Latimer (Larry) of Montgomery, TX, Connie Ann Shields (David) of Owasso, OK and Becky K Lawmaster (Randy) of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren: Brandi R. Malloy, Michael Jay Latimer, Zack J Lawmaster, Chrysta Ann Cacicio, Lacy Lyn Jamison; and five great-grandchildren: Chase and Cole Malloy, Jaxson and Jordyn Latimer, and Maddox Jay Jamison; a brother, Ted B. Williams (Loy) of Verdigris, OK and a sister, Joyce Grossman of Pryor, OK. He has many other extended family members that he cherished dearly.
Jay will be remembered by those who knew him as one who had a servant’s heart. Someone who could do just about anything. He loved spending time with family, working outdoors on his farm, fixing anything that was broken, and he had a special touch when fishing for those illusive crappie.
He served several years on the church council, taught his adult Share and Care Sunday School Class, built sets for various church programs, assisted with many church breakfasts, filled the baptistry, displayed church marquee signs and for the annual Pumpkin Patch he created duck races for the children and built a wagon, and so much more. He just loved serving his church whenever there was a need. Well done, good and faithful servant.
Though we will miss him greatly, we are comforted most by our knowledge that Jay will forever rejoice in his loving Creator's presence and he will be reunited with his beloved Anna Belle.
Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Visitation will be Friday, March 1, at Shipman Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
A funeral service to celebrate Jay’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, at First Church of God at 18 S. Rowe Street in Pryor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Church of God Building Fund.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pryor, OK.
