Jerry Bryant

January 24, 1941 — October 17, 2017

Jerry Clark Bryant, 76, went to be with his Lord & Saviour on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, after a lengthy battle with liver disease. Jerry was born on January 24, 1941, the second son of Beatrice Mae Raper Bryant and William Cullen Bryant, Jr. He grew up attending the Methodist Church, but was baptized in the Baptist faith on October 26, 2008. He attended Chouteau Schools and graduated in May 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Kay Burwell, on March 20, 1961 at the home of Rev. M.E. & Opal Roberts. They renewed their vows on August 2, 1990 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Of this union, two children were born. Tammy Kay Bryant Johnson and Timothy Clark Bryant. Jerry worked in pipeline construction for several years with his uncle and idol, Rod Raper. After pipelining, he worked at John Deere Chemical Company, later bought out by Nipak, Inc. In 1984, he joined the work force at Carborundum, which underwent 5 changes of ownership during the 26 years he worked there, the last one being Norit Americas, Inc. He retired as shift supervisor from Norit on December 31, 2005, after completing 26 years of employment. Jerry was privileged to be able to train many young men and one special lady, Wanda Jones, during his time at Norit Americas. Wanda always threatened to send Sharon a Sympathy Card for having to live with him. His "Y" Shift was very special to him. They engaged in friendly competitions at the plant, and "Y" shift won a certificate for winning the football one - timers contest in 2003. His "guys" gave him a Jeff Gordon jacket for Christmas. He was offered $1000.00 cash for the jacket, but he would not sell it because his crew had bought it for him. For many years, Jerry grew award - winning roses, and was a Consulting Rosarian with the American Rose Society. He and Sharon traveled to different cities in Oklahoma, Texas, & Missouri, entering their roses in competition, and had many Blue Ribbon winners and "Queens" of show, the top award. Jerry was also an avid NASCAR fan. He and Sharon took six bus trips to Texas Motor Speedway, Ft. Worth, Texas to watch the races, and his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. They also attended the NASCAR Indianapolis 400 Race in Indianapolis, Indiana. His other interests/ hobbies included going on cruises, woodworking, watching OU football and the New York Yankees baseball team. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 in the Chouteau First Baptist Church in Chouteau with Reverend Slade Story and Reverend Don Bendure officiating. Burial will follow in the Chouteau North Cemetery with Mark Wesley Perkins, Michael Perkins, Cullin Bryant - Daugherty, Conner Bryant - Daugherty, James Ryckman, and Reggie Teresa serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Aaron Corley, Brodie Perkins, Wyatt Perkins, Mason Perkins, and CJ Perkins. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Jerry is survived by Sharon, his wife of 56 years, and daughter, Tammy K. Johnson and husband Al Johnson of Ardmore, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Mark Wesley Perkins II and wife Corinne, Michael Wade Perkins and wife Laura, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Leslye Bryant Theresa and husband Reggie Theresa, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lindsay Bryant Ryckman and husband James Richard Ryckman of Wichita, Kansas, Cullen Michael Bryant Daugherty and Conner David Bryant Daugherty and wife Benni, all of Anadarko, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Brodie Lane Perkins, Katelin Michelle Perkins, Clark Jerrod (C.J.) Perkins, Michael Wyatt Perkins, Mason Wiley Perkins, Ashlye Nicole Corley, Steven Aaron Corley, Jasmine Rose Ryckman, Madison Elizabeth Ryckman, and Rosalia Linn Daugherty; sister, Virginia (Ginny) Sue McDonald of Arlington, Virginia; brother, William C. Bryant III of Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother in law, John Hofmeister of Chouteau, Oklahoma; 3 sisters and brothers in law, Karin Burwell and Pat Grossman of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Ola Burwell and Donn Thomas of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and Glenda Burwell and Lee Armer of Ardmore, Oklahoma; brother and sister in law, James Burwell and wife Terri of Collinsville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. Bryant and Beatrice Mae Raper Bryant, mother and father in law, Ola Mae and David Burwell, their beloved son, Timothy Clark Bryant, one brother, Robert Max (Bobby) Bryant, sister, Betty Jean (Jeannie) Bryant Hofmeister, and one grandson, Mathew Cameron Johnson. He leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
