Jerry Stafford

Jerry Lee Stafford, 75, of Chouteau, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on April 20, 1941 in Pryor; the son of Jerry and Agnus (Pierce) Stafford. He attended Pryor schools and graduated in the Class of 1959. He married Nancy Wheeler on December 23, 1969 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He retired from Sears after 35 years but missed being around people so he went to work for Wal-Mart for 8 years. He also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and making others laugh with jokes and pranks. Jerry enjoyed going golfing and watching sports on television. He looked forward to spending time outdoors, and going dove hunting. He had a special love for his family, and cherished each moment he had to spend with them. He leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the New Life Church of God in Chouteau with Pastor John Donnelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Chouteau West Cemetery with Jim Holt, Chief Jordon, Steve Johnson, Keith Wheeler, Leon Blankenship, and Homer Croft serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearer will be Hayden Burton. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel. Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy Stafford of the home; sons, Derek Stafford and wife Kate of Owasso, Oklahoma, Brandon Stafford of Chouteau, Oklahoma, Greg Stafford and wife Cindy of Carrolton, Missouri, and Gary Stafford and wife Lori of Montana; 4 sisters, Geraldine Hemperly of Pryor, Oklahoma, Judy Painter and husband Bob of Owasso, Oklahoma, Janie Powell and husband Richard of Pryor, Oklahoma, and Jonie Head and husband Gene of Pryor, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Stafford, LeeRay Sperling, Junior Sperling and parents Jerry and Agnes Stafford.
