Jesse Hickman

September 16, 1948 — October 11, 2016

Jesse "Bumpy" Glenn Hickman, 68, of Pryor, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Muskogee, Oklahoma due to complications from his fight with cancer. He was born on September 16, 1948 in Pryor. He was the son of Gordon and Lillie (Shearer) Hickman. Jess attended Pryor Schools and graduated in the Class of 1966. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and bowling, and looked forward to watching westerns.
Early in life, Jesse was an accomplished baseball player and a journeyman meat-cutter. During the Viet-Nam era, he volunteered to join the United States Air Force where he became a chef, participated in the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP), was part of the MAC V SOG in Laos and Cambodia, and became a key nuclear missile operator out of Minot North Dakota during the Cold War.
Jess is best known for his personality. Like Will Rogers before him, he was a humorist, pointing out the oddities that surround us all and telling wonderfully funny stories about his life and the observations he makes. He could make anyone laugh and had an incredible wit and charm that could disarm anyone. Jess leaves behind many wonderful memories and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 in the Church of the Nazarene in Pryor. Private family burial will be held in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery prior to memorial services. To leave his family a message, please visit his Book of Memories at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com.
